Tom was born in Davenport on December 17, 1952. He was the son of John and MaryJane (Micklewright) Cummings. He graduated from Davenport Central High School. On September 23, 1972 in Davenport, he married Patricia Likens.

Tom started working at Ralston Purina in 1973 and went on to work over 40 years there, retiring in May of 2013. He enjoyed spending time with his best friends Tom Fox and Denny Rife (his camping pal). Tom grew up camping on the Wapsi and spent the last decade camping at Hunt’s Cedar River Campground. He met a lot of friends at the campground over the years. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid bowler, and a huge Chicago Bears fan. His idol was Walter “Sweetness” Payton whom he got to meet in person. He also had a love for classic cars and enjoyed going to car shows.

Tom was a very sensitive, grateful and kind person who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was known for his big bear hugs and cherished his time with his granddaughters, being their proudest supporter. He had a very distinct whistle: Not only was it loud but he could chirp like a bird. You knew when he showed up somewhere just by his whistle. He had an intoxicating laugh and smile and you always felt better around him.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Patti, son, Joshua (Erica) Cummings, Wilton and their daughters Audrey and Isabella; siblings: John Cummings, Patrick (Maria) Cummings, Pamela (Bob) Hassman, Duke Cummings and Roxanne Rushman, all of Davenport; numerous nieces, nephews and his many friends at Ralston Purina, he never knew a stranger! His parents, brother, Michael, sister, Sheila Cummings and his beloved Boxer dog, Braunz preceded him in death.
