Robert “Ray” Haynes

DAVENPORT-Robert “Ray” Haynes, age 71, of Davenport, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Unity Point Trinity Bettendorf. Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the family, or the Word Church in East Moline.

Ray was born on December 26, 1951, in Meridian, MS, to Otis and Mary (Lenton) Payton. Ray graduated from Davenport Central High School, Class of 1971. He married Michele Gass on December 8, 2013, in Rock Island. He worked as a security guard for John Deere-Davenport Works for over 30 years, retiring in 2007. Ray was also a competitive power-lifter, and enjoyed golfing with family and friends. He was a member and regularly attended Word Church in East Moline. He also enjoyed a good cigar and a malt from his daughter’s Popcorn Shop in Muscatine. Most of all he cherished time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Michele; daughters, Shiloe (Michael) Hillman, and Haley (Tyler) Willhite; step-children, Tiffany (Adam) Sodeman, and Ronnie (Jennifer) Gass; grandchildren, Madeline, Carter, Isaih, Ariana, Sophia, Jade, Xander, Sebastian, Nickolaus, Charlotte, and Riley; sister, Eva Griffith; and brother, Johnie Haynes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
