Flora Mae McCallister, 70, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Boone Hospital (Columbia, MO) surrounded by her family and close friends.

Flora was born in Little Rock, AR, on September 21, 1953, the second daughter of AC McCallister and Florence (Blakeney) McCallister, who have preceded her in death. She was raised in Davenport, IA, lived briefly in Austin, TX, and finally settled in Columbia, MO with her two daughters, grandson, and son-in-law.

Flora’s life was deeply rooted in Faith, Family, and Food. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1986, and has faithfully obeyed the commission to love Jehovah God, Jesus Christ, and her neighbors. She would talk to anyone about the Bible that would listen.

She had a passion for music, singing, and dancing. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and traveling anywhere her heart desired. She took special care to research her family ancestry and attended family reunions regularly. She had a fondness for teaching, especially her students with special needs. Flora was kind-hearted, outgoing, and always ready to turn a stranger into a new friend, taking anyone with a need into her care.

Flora leaves behind two daughters: Floreisha (Byron) Washington of Hallsville, MO, Florissa McCallister of Columbia, MO; one grandson: J’Kai Brantley of Minneapolis, MN; her siblings: Ethelene Johnson of Arkansas; Eugene (Danette) McCallister of Missouri, Diane (Jake) Mathurin of Iowa, Ruben (Charlene) McCallister of Iowa; a dear aunt, Bessie Foster of Texas; some precious “grand and great-grand kitties;” a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and countless numbers of friends.
