Wassell, Frederick “Rick”

PORT BYRON — Frederick C. “Rick” Wassell, 64, of Port Byron, laid down to take a nap early Tuesday morning, May 9, 2017, with his wife, Kelly, sons, Tobey and Sam, and daughter, Sarah, beside him. Shortly thereafter, Rick awoke in Heaven with a Big O’, Big O’ Smile …healthy, happy and whole.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at “The Farm” on Saturday, May 13, from 3-7 p.m. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad-Cities. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
He was born March 23, 1953, in Moline, the son of Ronald and Verna (Zeigler) Wassell. He married Kelly Ann Micklewright on February 26, 1983, in Port Byron. He owned and operated Port Byron Machine, Inc. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Port Byron.
Rick is survived by his wife, Kelly; his mother, Verna Fell of Bettendorf; four children, Tobin Benway of Davenport, Sarah and Jeremy Jacques of Bettendorf, Samuel Wassell of Port Byron, and Cyrilla and David Thacher of Davenport; nine grandchildren, Tomas, Nevaeh, Angel and Gabby Benway, Madison Jacques, Madilynn Wassell, and Benjamin, Azzy and Freddie Thacher; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda Wassell Stagg and David Stagg of Port Byron, and Niki Akin of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his father.
Rick’s family wishes to thank our entire community, fabulous friends, and UnityPoint Hospice (especially Karen and Jenna) for their endless love and encouragement this past year.
